Coconut and coconut based products
Coconut has a particular lipid profile which is rich in medium-chain saturated fatty acids. At Alpro, it is used as the main ingredient or as a mixed base combined with soy. Coconut-based plant-based products can be light or more rich and indulgent. Their reasonable use allows for variation and can have its place within a healthy and balanced diet.
Alpro coconut-based drinks (in combination with soy) and plant-based alternatives to soy-based yogurt containing coconut are generally low in fat and mostly contain calcium, vitamin D2 and B12. They are also low in sugar, with no sugar versions also available.
More indulgent coconut-based products contain a higher amount of fat and so should be consumed occassionally.
Free of lactose, they are particularly appreciated and versatile in cooking: smoothies, sauces and curries, breakfasts, pastries...
How are Alpro Coconut products made?
In Alpro products, coconut is used in the form of coconut cream, mixed with water and other ingredients and nutrients like calcium or vitamins. For the Alpro Coconut range, ferments are added after pasteurization, as in the manufacturing process for dairy yogurts or soy-based alternatives to yogurt. The coconut ingredients (coconut water and coconut cream) are then fermented without the need to add sugar to the base.
A wide range of resources on coconut is also available on the Alpro Foundation
