Almonds and almond-based products
Almonds, and the nut family as a whole, are nutritious foods. Generally speaking, almond-based drinks have a good nutritional profile: they are low in saturated fats and low in calories, whilst providing a range of nutrients (added vitamins and minerals). They allow for variety and therefore have their place within a healthy and balanced diet.
Almond-based drinks can be lightly sweetened or sugar-free. They can be consumed straight from the glass, poured over breakfast cereals or incorporated into recipes. Their use helps diversify the diet to help limit total intake of calories, sugar and saturated fat while providing a range of valuable nutrients including calcium, iodine, and vitamins E, D2 and B12.
How is almond drink made?
Whole Mediterranean almonds are used either, plain or lightly roasted to bring out their natural flavor (depending on the variation) before being crushed and mixed with water. Other ingredients and nutrients, such as calcium and vitamins, can then be added.
Good to know:
The almonds used by Alpro are Mediterranean! The crops are grown in an approach to maintaining biodiversity and mainly irrigated with rainwater. And when this is not enough, a drip system is used.
